October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. One in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. Breast cancer is the most common cancer detected in women, other than skin cancer. Screening and early detection save lives. Know your family history of breast and other cancers. Talk to your physician about which screening tests are right for you and when to have them. Maintain a healthy lifestyle, which reduces the risk of many diseases: incorporate exercise into your week, eat a healthy diet, quit smoking, and limit the use of alcohol.
